Self-image and Social Anxiety Disorder

Your Self-image is essential in several emotional disorders, including Social Anxiety Disorder. Below I would like to explain in a video how this Self-image plays an important role in social anxiety disorder. It is just an example where not all possible thoughts generated in a social anxiety disorder are discussed. But it does give an impression of how important self-image is in maintaining social anxiety disorder.

My most important message remains: without a change in your self-image, a social anxiety disorder will not really be cured. It is possible that a standard cognitive behavioral therapy protocol will reduce your social anxiety disorder, but there is a good chance that your social anxiety will return more quickly if you have not changed your Self-image sufficiently.

Short explanation of the video

The video below is 'nothing fancy'. Expect a boring video in terms of design, but I mainly made it for the content and actually, it really is for the more interested 'nerdy' people.

The content is basically, that at the core of your personality, your Self-Image, often 1 or 2 so-called self-image demons (technically they are called: negative core beliefs) are unconsciously active. In social anxiety, for example, this is the idea that you are worth less than others, the so-called Worthless demon.

This idea automatically (and unconsciously) also causes the so-called Rules of Life, rules on the basis of which you think and, above all, act. In the video, for example, it is that when meeting people you should not stand out and not seek contact. After all, you are not worth making yourself known.

Based on these rules of life, you behave shyly and avoidantly: you do not greet people, do not look at them and avoid any further contact. Of course, that doesn't give a nice image of yourself: people will immediately get a negative impression of you.

As a result, that self-image devil continues to be proven right: you are a worthless type, not worth getting to know. In this way, your Social Anxiety Disorder continues to be maintained by yourself.

The video also explains what you need to do in terms of treatment: learn to recognize and attack your Self-Image devils. You must also learn to change your Rules of Life and of course also your Behavior. If you dare or simply do it, you will notice that it almost always has positive consequences.
